The Description of trafficking in person means the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt, of persons by means of threat or use of force or other forms, of coercion, of abduction of fraud or deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payment or benefit to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person for the purpose of exploitation which includes prostitution, forced labour or service, slavery or practices similar to slavery servitude or the removal of organs.
Poverty is a compelling factor in the human trafficking industry.
The act of trafficking and the attendant human rights violations can have very serious consequences for the victim. Women who have been trafficked May suffer from serious health problems including physical health, reproductive health and mental health problems, service providers who work with victims should be aware of the severe and interrelated health consequences, that result from trafficking.
Trafficked victims often suffer from serious physical abuse and physical exhaustion as well as starvation, typical injuries can include broken bones, concussion, bruising, or burns as well as other injuries consistent with assault, Some of these serious injuries can cause lasting health problems and may require long term treatment.
Because women who have been trafficked have been subjected to multiple cases of abuse over an extensive period of time. They may suffer these health’s problems consistently due to prolong sexual abuse which has a physical and emotional effect on the women involved, as it is against their will,
- Trafficked victims are often made to participate in sexual activities through physical force. Like unwanted touching, grabbing, oral sex, anal sex, forceful sexual penetration with an object and/or sexual intercourse, which can consist of pressure from someone with authority over them, Which are manipulations from alcohol or drugs
Women involved in this sexual act of assault or slavery may experience emotional reactions including server stress and depression and are vulnerable to sexual and reproductive health complications including sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and other gynecological problems because they may often not have access to, or are not allowed to use condoms or other methods of birth control. Such women feel the risk of unwanted pregnancies and miscarriages, Women who work as prostitutes experience high rates of abortion, Sterilization, and infertility.
This type of sexual abuse described above leads to severe mental or emotional health consequences. Including feelings of guilt, post-traumatic stress disorder, which may also lead to self-mutilation and /or suicide. So victims of trafficking often need psychological care as part of standard medical treatment.
